Mixtape Audit: Kid Color

By Patrick Bobilin • on March 11, 2010

Kyle Woods, who DJs under the moniker Kid Color has been a favorite of mine since about 5 minutes after I landed in Chicago. He’s barely old enough to get a drink at any of the places where he can be found around town just about every night of the week. His newest mix, titled Palette One represents the variety of contemporary and classic disco sounds you’ll find in any of his sets. Warbling synths and tight snares lay the groundwork for a party where sultry babes and desperate boys alternate from track to track vying for your attention. It’s a nice intersection of essential tracks and unabashed party music I found helpful for getting me through the workday and perfect for gallery-hopping at night.
